Thanks for everything, friends.

Featured

Hey guys, it’s Purple Claw. And happy new year!

From the title of the post, you probably think this is going to be a more serious post than my other ones. And you’re right. It’s going to be a little hard for me to explain what’s going on, but here we go.

You’ve probably noticed my inactivity on Clawtropica. I haven’t been posting for more than a month. Well, it’s not because I’m lazy, but it’s because… I’m moving on.

I know you’ve been waiting for a long time until I get to my 10-12 posts a month, but I can’t and I don’t want to do that anymore. In fact, I don’t want to do anything with Clawtropica anymore.

So, yeah, I’m shutting down this blog due to my lack of ideas, time and the fact that I want to do things other than Poptropica, and this blog doesn’t allow me. Blogging on this blog has become more of a chore and less of a hobby.

I’d like to thank all of the authors that have contributed to this blog, starting from Young Singer, Shaky Skunk, Tall Cactus, Lucky Joker, Hyper Gamer, Happy Lobster, G-Hopper, Brave Hero, and, of course, Lucky Wing. You’ve been a huge help, and I couldn’t be happier.

I’d also like to thank every since one of my commenters and supporters. It took me a while to create a community of a few people, and I’m glad for all of you. I don’t think it’s necessary to list all of you here, but I think you know who you are.

But, please, don’t cry, because then I’ll cry. I won’t be leaving the Poptropica community, the PHB, or even blogging as a whole!

I’m opening a new blog I’ve secretly wanted to start since September. It’s called Pea Sea and it’s more than just Poptropica; it’s about my daily life, reviews, art, poems, stories, rants and all that cool stuff. Go follow that blog on you’d like to see more of me (please).

Capture.PNG

I hope you like what I post there, because I sure am happier with that blog. Remember that I’m not quiting the PHB yet, because there are a couple of things I’d like to do there.

Also, I’m not deleting this blog, so you can check out all of my 184 posts if you’re feeling nostalgic.

Please, to all Poptropica bloggers, don’t be discouraged by this post. I’m just stating my opinion, and if you like Poptropica, then go ahead and continue doing what you do. I’ll still be commenting on different blogs. I might also come back, if I’m not happy with my non-Poptropica blogging and maybe if Worlds releases new and GOOD content.

And, for probably the last time on this blog, bye Clawtropicans, and I with you the best. You were the reason I woke up early to write back in 2016, and thanks for tuning in, but now, I have to tune out. See you whether on my personal blog, discord, or the PHB.

-PC out.

I love you.

Multiplayer Games — from best to worst

(This post was suggested by TallMelonisCool, and don’t forget to check out his channel at SuperTalkCam after you’re done with this post! Also, special thanks to the PHV channel for the videos shared below!)

common-room-games.png

Multiplayer games in Poptropica have been a thing for a really long time, but have started to become less and less popular with the decreasing amount of people going to common rooms, sadly. Regardless of that, some are pretty fun, so that’s what I’m doing today; I’m counting down each and one from my personal favorite to my least favorite.

Keep in mind that I tried to keep this post as optimistic as possible, and if you don’t agree with the way the mini-games are arranged, don’t worry; it’s just my silly opinion, and I’d love to hear yours! So, with that said, let’s get started with the countdown!

PAINT WAR

If you’ve been in a multiverse room with me before for a couple of times, you probably how much I love this game, because it’s the first question I ask when being in a common room. I don’t like to brag, but I’m awesome at it (even though it’s super easy, and most of the time, the opponent doesn’t know how to play the game). Anyway, it’s pretty fun, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants their battle ranking to increase.

STAR LINK

Over here, your goal is to make as many star-linked boxes as possible, and faster than your opponent. Whoever ends up with the least star-linked boxes loses, and while I’m definitely not the best at this game, I still find it pretty interesting! And even though it’s been a thing for years now, I only got interested in it like a month ago (what a shame).

HOOPS

Let’s just say that I’m terrible at this game, but that doesn’t stop me from loving it! Sure, it’s hard but it’s also great fun. The concept is pretty simple alright; all you have to do is throw the basketball into the net, and whoever scores five times is the winner! But the basket also moves each time someone scores a point, so that’s quite a challenge. (at least for me)

SKY DIVE

I’m all for Sky Dive — it’s pretty much the best way to increase your battle ranking if you’re too lazy to play some other more challenging minigame. It’s easy, it’s quick, and you can play it countless times and get aggressive with your opponent until you get bored, which is basically the same problem, since you get pretty bored after a while of playing it.

PATHWISE

I really like Pathwise. It’s just the fifth favorite in this list just because I don’t like it as much as the other ones. It’s really simple and really not-that-hard, and you’ll get the hang of it after playing it for less than 3 times. Basically, you have to find a way to make a path to get to the other side before your opponent does. It’s pretty easy, once you read some tips about it. 😉

BALLOONS

‘Balloons’ is nice, it’s a good game. But I never seem to get it. I mean, I know what you’re supposed to do, but I never seem to stand a chance against my opponent (I’m not a sore loser please believe me). But, I can’t really hate it, since it’s quite creative. A great minigame, just not my type.

SOUPWORDS

On Soupwords, you have to find as many words before time runs by clicking each letter, and the person with the most points wins at the end.

Ugh…

I don’t like this one. Why you might ask? Well, I don’t hate it (I really don’t hate any of these, except one…), but I’d rather play it by myself than a real opponent, to be honest. It’s not bad, but it’s not that interesting like some other minigames like Pathwise and Star Link. And while I personally don’t like Soupwords, I can understand why a lot of people do.

SUDOKU

If you’re like me, you probably hate Sudoku as much as I do. It’s not the minigame itself — it’s the puzzle as a whole, but yes, playing it with another person is twice as painful, but a little less boring.

I’ve always wanted to like Sudoku (my parents love it), but I’d always find myself skipping them and doing the crosswords instead. So, it’s not really the Poptropica version of it (kinda), but my distaste for Sudoku at a whole.

((BTW I’m aware that there’s a singleplayer version of the game in Poptropica,  but I want to keep this list multiplayer-game only.))

Thanks for reading, Clawtropicans! What do you think of this list? What’s your version of it? Leave a comment in the comment section below, and also, please support us by linking our content & following this blog and its social media!

Feel free to join the Clawtropica Hangout on Discord, where you can start multiverses, share your content, and chat with other Poptropicans! See you until my next post (which I’ll try to release as soon as possible). Until then, I’m out!

Poptropica’s social media problems

NOTE: Creators, if you’re reading this, I didn’t write this post to attack you, but to share my opinion on your work, which is, well, a negative opinion. This analysis (with comedic relief) is to teach you how to run better your social media, and you should probably listen to what your fans have to say in the future, since the damage has already been made.

socialmediaproblems.png

oh god I don’t know how to start this…

Hey Clawtropicans, it’s your friend Purple Claw!

We all remember Skinny Moon: she brought the community together in such an amazing way. She shared fan-made content, commented on fan blogs and YouTube videos, visited us on Discord, and she even made official badges for various sites (the official Poptropica fan-site badges). She was Poptropica’s social media manager for more than a year, and she was awesome.

But, the days of her reign didn’t last long, and she left because she didn’t have time for Poptropica anymore, and we totally understand. She said that she was going to be replaced after she made a goodbye post, but she was replaced quickly without saying goodbye to us (but you can find her at @PopGirlJess on Twitter).

The new blogger, though, isn’t doing such a good job. And that’s the literal thing of thing of this post. This intro took more than 200 words to write, and that’s five minutes I’ll never get back. Let’s get started anyway!

Jorge the producer: Time to interrupt the show for a commercial break!

Purple Claw: EEAAK WE’RE LIKE THREE MONTHS INTO SCHOOL

Jorge: But it’s not over ye-

PC: YESH IT IS. FOR YOU. YOU’RE FIRED. Go back and continue the comic strip series with Oliver. *kicks Jorge out*

Um, now that THAT’S over, we can finally continue…

First of all, their Twitter.

Not only it’s a mess, but they’re trying to be hippy and family-friendly at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, since I’m a person who likes to stack Wendy’s comment section just for their sass. But Poptropica wants to be both edgy (to appeal to the teens probably) and also tries to be kid friendly too, so they can win the parents’ attention. Just pick one already.

Here’s a few examples:

And then there’s this:

Capture.PNG

Ugh, just make up your mind, Creators. What do you want us to think from you? That you’re hippy and edgy, or a company mainly targeted to 6-12 year-old kids? It’s getting annoying after a while. But, I’ll have to admit, edgy Poptropica is pretty funny, even if not suitable for a company such as Poptropica.

Promoting.

Skinny Moon used to advertise a whole lot of blog posts, as long as we tweeted them to her, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the new person. Why? BECAUSE THEY DON’T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THE FANDOM. I’ve tweeted my posts countless times to them, and they didn’t even say anything (not a single retweet). What they mostly retweet are PHB posts (which isn’t a bad thing, but others also deserve to be promoted), and some YouTube videos.

There was also this cringey thing that lasted for like, two weeks, where they’d feature one YouTube fan video for Poptropica Worlds, and introducing it as a weekly mini-segment, like if that’s a good idea. I’m sorry, new person, but if you think our content isn’t good enough to be on your twitter wall, then you’re WRONG. VERY INCORRECT, actually. Why? Read below.

The Poptropica Blog.

The posts the new Creator has made (not including mai boi, Captain Crawfish, because I love him), are well, pathetic. Usually the posts Skinny Moon used to write were sweet and short, but this guy pushes short to a brand new level. And that writing… those titles… They make me cringe so hard, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that.

ew.PNG

Look at this. Just look at it. Not only it’s short, but look at that creative title! And why isn’t the URL hyperlinked? This post can be much better, so get to work, please. Thankfully, it seems like Captain Crawfish has taken over the blog, since all of his latest posts have his sign-off. That’s a good step forward, since the blog posts are fun again.

New blogger, if you’re reading you should probably think of the fans that keep this game alive and work extra hard to make posts, videos and art about their favorite game, and struggle to balance schoolwork with fandoms. What you’re doing, well, kinda hurts, and is rude, considering you still promote some fan content. Why not give others a chance?

We don’t get release dates anymore.

Poptropica fans, including myself, have asked so many times about new island releases, and we’ve never gotten a legit answer other that ”there’s something soon stay tuned lol” There are multiple examples, and if you’re on Twitter you’ve for sure seen one, but I’ll just show a more recent one just for the sake of it:

Capture

Yeah, no. You’re not helping us, Creators. At all. Saying just that ”there’s something soon” doesn’t keep your fans hyped. It’s literally the opposite: you’re turning them away.

Why can’t you give us release dates for new islands anymore like you used to? Where are the sneak peeks? The trailers? Believe me; that’ll keep us all interested until you finally launch the long-waited content.

Let’s continue with their YouTube channel.

Poptropica has been really active on their YouTube channel, posting videos such as livestreams, gameplays, top 5 lists etc. And, don’t get me wrong, I do think what they’re doing is pretty cool, but there’s a slight problem with what they’re doing…

youtube.PNG

Look at all these lazy thumbnails. Heck, for some videos, they didn’t even bother making one. A friend of mine, also known as naps said that they mostly care about the amount of videos they release weekly, than the horrible way they advertise them, but who would wants to click of a video with such a lazy preview?

Not only that, but the latest top 5 list is… kinda pathetic… I’m talking about the *gasp* Top 5 UNSOLVED mysteries in Poptropica Worlds!! BIG SHOCKER!!! :0000

Half a minute in and I’ve cringed already. Look, Dave, you’re cool, and the way you talk is amazing, but I can easily tell you in just two seconds why these mysteries are unsolved. It’s because they’re not real mysteries. No one even cares about them.

While this video could’ve been a really nice, well-made video about real mysteries from the original Poptropica, since there are actual mysteries there, they decided to go with Poptropica Worlds, where there’s barely ANY content at all!

Like, we know that they’re trying to promote PW more, and who can blame them, it’s their recent game and want to drag people’s attention, but they’ll have to try harder than that. This idea was kinda unnecessary, and the creators probably know that, but I don’t want to judge their whole YouTube channel just from a video, since the rest of them are pretty well-made, it’s just the thumbnails that absolutely annoy me.

Wow, I’ve written a lot today, but I’m still not all the way done yet. Not until I address this last issue…

The creators aren’t at all interactive with the Poptropica fandom.

Skinny Moon tried her best to interact with fans, often by dropping on the PHC Discord, commenting on other people’s art on DeviantArt, commenting on Poptropica blogs, officializing Poptropica fan-sites (we’re one of those!), and she even let me interview her a bit less that a year ago! Heck, it reached to a point where Skinny Moon felt like she was everywhere. 😛

The same thing doesn’t seem to be going with the new social media person, though. They haven’t chatted with us on Discord, they rarely comment on artworks, they only comment on blogs whenever there’s a misunderstanding or whenever we don’t seem to *big shocker* like their most recent updates (*COUGH* *COUGH* THE COLORIZER *COUGH* *COUGH*)1.PNG

Creators, you need to be more like Skinny Moon was. Skinny Moon was the best thing that ever happened in Poptropica’s social media management. Maybe we didn’t see how cool she was right away, but we want an interactive social media manager like her. Someone who can run Poptropica’s social media well and someone who has time to make quality blog posts (though, it seems this problem is being solved). Someone who encourages people to keep making fan-content about Poptropica; someone who actually cares.

Again, I’m not writing this post to offend you, but to tell you what you should do, since your activity has a great impact to this small community of Poptropica fans. If you’re a Poptropica fan, feel free to share your thoughts about this topic in the comment section below.

But, Poptropica fans aren’t the only people we want to hear from — we also need your thoughts, Creators. Please try to improve, and if you have something to say, go right ahead in the comments.

Halloween Special: Poptropica’s Spookiest Moments

BOO, Spooptropicans and Happy Halloween! We’ve prepared this post for you guys, and I hope you like it!

Poptropica’s a happy game, most of the time. You go on adventures, meet new people, and do all that jazz, but today we’re going to take a look at some… spooky moments in Poptropica that almost made us jumpscare from horror and made our parents wonder what kind of game this is.

pop_spooky_moments.png

Some of these ideas were given to us by some cool peeps over at the Clawtropica Chat, but more on that at the end of the post. Let’s begin with the post… if you dare, that is. 🎃

ezgif.com-video-to-gif

BIG BLUE ZOMBERRY

Big Blue scared me so much when I played this island. Sure, Zomberry may be creepy as a whole (I mean, it’s supposed to make you feel like you’re wandering in a ghost town), but nothing on this island is even close to being as scary as Big Blue. He’s absolutely addicted to blueberries/blueberry smoothies, that he’d be wiling to use his huge body as a shield to keep his precious berries safe. But, I have to admit, he’s really good at what he does, so let’s all applause for him.

BigBlue

THE NOKKEN

Let’s all admit it: all the creatures in Twisted Thicket are terrifying in some way (even the Dryads, they come in packs and get stuck on your skin and take you with them), but the winner of them all was the Nokken. While I do think he’s adorable while sleeping, during the gameplay, this guy jump-scared me COUNTLESS times. But, to be honest, once you get used to him popping outta nowhere, you can relax and enjoy this island as a normal person.

Nokken.png

THE PUPPET MAN

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS GUY?!

No, but seriously, what was the point of this guy?! It’s pretty much the same issue with Nokken, only that the Puppet Man will haunt you for the rest of your life. You’re already in the creepiest part of this island, you go into a terrifyingly dark maze filled with monstrous wax figures, and when you think you’re all safe… THIS GUY APPEARS. No, no, just no. Stop it.

tunnelOfLoveWorkerMonster.gif

THE JERSEY DEVIL

”uh hello I’m a literal demon-dinosaur thing, sup”

”aaaaaAaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”

Do I have to add anything else? (I will just for the sake of it, lol).

Jersey Devil is… yeah, terrifying and pops out of nowhere (he’s probably the scariest monster in Poptropica), but at least he doesn’t completely ANNOY you like the previous peeps. But this list is for spooky moments… so… ‘nough said.

capture_03242013_090853.png

”ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMEONE?”

Ghost Story is probably the best island in Poptropica (even though I’ve only played it once) and everything about it is just spectacular: it has a realistic story and the characters aren’t just one-dimensional (it’s funny because they’re completely flat), they feel like real people, but I’m not here to talk about that (not yet)…

This moment was absolutely traumatizing when I first-played this island, since I didn’t expect any sound, let alone people talking, and boy, was it on the worst moment possible. You’re sneaking around in a kinda abandoned house, and look through the telescope, but after a while of doing that, the spirits from the underworld have come to haunt you… or not. Still though, it’s a pretty creepy scene, even though Fiona is the purest Poptropican ever. ❤

FIONA.png

MYRON VAN BUREN

You thought there was going to be a post about spooky moments in Poptropica and MVB wasn’t going to be in it? Well, think again! Because he totally deserves to be on the list.

He spends the first two episodes spying on you, hiding behind a screen. He knows where you are. He knows what you’ve been doing. And yet, doesn’t do anything until you send a signal. A little suspicious, don’t you think?

He brings you to his Cabin, and puts you to sleep, and afterwards locks you up in a room that looks like a cage (hint: because it is one!), where you can easily escape from, but then you’ve got to find your way out of the Cabin, and, guess what? You do! Because you’re about to become MVB’s new trophy!

While this moment is pretty frittering, even as a game, it brings a message to Poptropica fans to see the cruelness of the world today. Life isn’t always sunshine and happiness, and by showing the story of a man, who realizes that hunting animals and turning them into trophies is not enough, and which decides to haunt down a human being…

pop

COURT BRAM’S CASTLE

Vampire’s Curse is such an interesting island, yet, such a creepy one. You’re wandering alone in Court Bram’s castle in the dark, visiting dark rooms, and seeing more and more about him, but this feeling of unsureness is always with you…

But, in my opinion, the creepiest part doesn’t start until you meet Katya, the village girl Bram’s kidnapped thinking that she’s his wife. She’s trapped in a cage, and once you manage to get her out of there, guess who appears? Yup, Court Bram. And he’s furious. (and also tries to kill you multiple times).

Untitled

But, of course, as a hero, you’ve managed to get through all of these scenes, and isn’t that what Poptropica’s all about? Every game needs a little spook here and there, and the Poptropica Creators have done a terrifyingly great job at it. Hehe, get it?.. No? I’ll leave…

In other news, it’s Halloween tonight (or today, for you, probably)! I kept this post for this special day, and I really hope you guys enjoy it! Have fun on this special day, Sp00ptropicans, and don’t eat too much candy! Heh, just kidding, do whatever you want. 😉 Don’t forget to join our discord chat, to participate to all of these cool conversations!

Poptropica’s also doing a great discount for Halloween outfits and you can learn all about it by reading this blog post. Oh, and it’s also Happy Lobster’s birthday, so make sure to wish him a spoopy birthday!

🎃 HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃

Wow, I’m done with another post. I’m really exhausted right now, but really happy at the same time. Please show support by commenting on our posts, because that motivates us to write more and more for you. I’m going to pass out for the day… Bye.

Claw of Wizardry out!

A Spooky Blog for a Spooky Month – Happy Halloween!

So… I was going to post this on Friday the 13th, because it would be the perfect day to start this Halloween thing, but my lazy brain just though ”oh why don’t I just do this tomorrow (but I didn’t do it tomorrow) and ruin a perfect way to introduce a darker version of our blog BECAUSE I LIKE MISSING PERFECT OPPORTUNITIES AND FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS”. So… blame my brain, not me.

Ugh, let’s just continue with the scheduled post, shall we?

Boo, Clawtropicans! Welcome to Clawspookica, the Poptropica blog of horrors!

giphy

Yeah, I know this intro is really cheesy, but what better way to start this post than getting in the spoopy spirit, am I right?

So, you may have noticed our Halloween-themed makeover we had for our blog, that is, if you’re not reading this post from your WordPress.com reader. What I came up so far is pretty simple (and not at all cringe-worthy), and improvements will be made, but I believe we can settle with this for now.

Capture.PNG

Since it’s Halloween, we’ll have many fun things over here at Clawtropica, so I sure hope you enjoy what we have in store! There’ll be top 5 lists, reviews, interviews, and many more (and maybe even a Halloween party)! Oh, also, the long-waited answers to your questions for Sarah will also be answered soon, so that’s something to look forward to. 😀

Thanks for reading! We also have a contest coming up, so stay tuned! 🙂

BOO!

PC out!

A Decade Full of Adventure — Happy (late) Birthday Poptropica!

Hey there Clawtropicans, it’s Purple Claw, and yes, I know I’ve been inactive (I majorly apologize), but I’ll keep that topic for another post. Trust me; it’s pretty interesting. 😉 With that said, let’s get pop in, shall we?

Marketing_image_10th_birthday2 (1)

So, as always, the Creators released a birthday costume to celebrate their tenth birthday, and the iconic animal for this celebration is a creepy monkey! The creators said that it will also be added to Poptropica Worlds, and it did, but it got deleted, but now it’s back again!

358650185770860547.png

pic by Fishy ^^

The creators also threw a party (I wasn’t invited), and they seemed to have some fun, so I’m sharing a couple of images here, but feel free to check out the original post, by cliking here.

Hmm, I’m a tad disappointed. Not with the birthday updates, but that post. It doesn’t say too much about their birthday, and it seems kinda… bland… Don’t get me started with that title…

I’m sorry unknown blogger, we appreciate your effort to make new posts for us, but you’ll have to try better than that. Check out Skinny Moon’s post about Poptropica’s 9th Birthday — it may not have been the best birthday party (or at least, as good as the last one), but the post was really good. At least she knew how to hyperlink.

This tenth anniversary was actually nothing special…. Or, at least, until you realize a freaking membership contest happened!! (Just a heads up, the contest is now closed)

Capture.PNG

I won’t get into the details, but you can read the rules and all that jazz right here. While I do agree that this is a really good business idea, giving just 1-month membership to everyone is, well, a bit of a waste of time, at least for me (it’s just one month). That’s why I didn’t finish my piece in the first place.

So, the contest is over now (because I’m always late), but congrats to all the winners! That includes Gentle Spinner, Hyper Gamer (a Clawtropica author!), Fearless Lizard, Young Cloud, Maroon Jumper (AKA Lilly from the Pop Blog!), Thirsty Seal, Friendly Grape (love the illustrations!), Wild Bubbles, Striped Dolphin, AND Jumpy Coyote (Yujo from the PHC!). You can check their entries here. ^^

Soo… I haven’t read all of them yet, and they’re all really good (what do you expect, they’re the winners) but I really, really like Lilly’s entry. It’s a pretty interesting idea, and I hope if becomes a full island one day.

I’m sorry for everyone who couldn’t finish their entry in time, or that didn’t have any ideas.

There are also some other less major news, such us Poptropica finally being active on their YouTube channel (I knew subbing to them was worth it). They’ve made two livestreams and one top five list, and they’re very interesting, if I have to say so myself.

The one playing is named Stephanie, a Creator we’ve never been introduced to before. She’s a really nice person, and some people think it may also be the new social media person, though it might also be an artist or a writer or whatever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even though there have been some issues with echoes and the recording, I recommend checking out those videos, because they’re pretty cool.

Well, thanks for reading this huge post! I’m glad to be back, and I hope you’ll find my future posts interesting and if you have a suggestion for anything, please comment below! Thanks for reading, and happy October!

Poptropica is such an amazing game that I can see myself playing it as a grandpa (if Pop is still alive by then).

Pop 5: Most Educational Islands

Hey Clawtropicans, it’s Purple Claw, with another top 5 list!

Poptropica has its fair share of fun islands, but today we’re looking at some which I consider the most educational. And yes, I know I made a post about which Poptropica is the most educationalbut I don’t care, this is my blog and I can do whatever I want with it (just kidding, just kidding). I don’t actually have a better intro for this post, so let’s get started. 😛

Educational_Islands.png

Keep in mind that this list is opinion-based, so if you don’t agree with me, I seriously don’t mind, as long as you’re mature about it. Also, this list may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk!

#5. COUNTERFEIT ISLAND

Counterfeit Island is really well-made, with lots and lots of art, a really exciting mystery, and a super cool villain (#BlackWidowFTW). Also the Balloon Boy gag started on that very island, so you can blame that for the new Poptropica Worlds trailer.

The most educational thing about this island were, of course, the art pieces at the art museum. That’ll probably help you a bit in class, in case a teacher that lame asks you about a painting and who made it, and you know that because you saw it on Poptropica, you’re in luck! If you didn’t get that info from Pop, well… kudos to you. If you didn’t know the answer at all… then… you’re on your own. 😛

Ugh, I’m getting way of track here; let’s just continue with the next item, shall we?

counter_pic

#4. VIRUS HUNTER ISLAND

You’ll probably disagree with me on this one, but just listen to me first, okay? I’m aware that this island is hated by, like, most of the community because of its glitches and it’s overall grossness, but it can still be educational, right?

Basically, on this island you travel through a person’s body, to kill a deadly virus. On your journey there, you see different parts of a human’s body, such as your heart, your brain, and you learn how dangerous deadly viruses can be. Does that look educational to you? I think it does.

But I have to agree, this island isn’t really that well made. The bright colors sometimes hurt my eyes, and it’s extremely hard, and can get a bit annoying at times. Still wouldn’t call it a bad island, though.

virushunter_pic.png

#3. RED DRAGON ISLAND

Red Dragon Island is one of Poptropica’s most popular islands, and for a good reason. It’s visually great, the story is really interesting (even though it’s a sponsored island), the platforming is fun and not too frustrating, and it’s also pretty educational.

It’s a really beautiful island which introduces us to good ol’ ancient Japan and its culture. From Sumo battles, to helping random strangers, writing Japanese symbols, catching mythical river demons, cutting Bonsai Trees (that’s sorta educational, right?), too learning and fighting Japanese dragons; this island has everything!

#2. TIME TANGLED ISLAND

While Time Tangled is a bit… overrated, there’s no denying it’s one of Poptropica’s most educational islands. I mean, what else could you expect from an island where you go back in time to bring everything in order to the past, so the future can be fixed?

You go to Mount Everest, in Ancient Greece, and in all sorts of places to repair your past, but while you’re doing that, you actually learn something. The new SUI version doesn’t have those Fact Monster bubbles I mentioned in a previous post (thankfully), so it’s a bit less educational that way.

But, there’s a glitch (special thanks to Tall Melon for reminding me!), when after you get your time watch by your older self, you go to the Main Street’s common room, and then choose a time era, and voila! The whole island will be a non-SUI!

#1. MYTHOLOGY ISLAND

Ah, Mythology Island! I was intrigued while playing this island, not just because of the wonderful storyline and the visually great graphics, but because I learned a whole lot about Greek Mythology too!

As some of you might know, I was born in Greece, but Greek Mythology is lightly mentioned there, for some reason (what is this education system). I did learn something about it in the third grade, I think.

Everything about this island is educational, and really fun at the same time. The museum of Olympus (the place where you learn about the Gods, such stalkers we are), Aphrodite’s minigame where you’re supposed to answer correctly the Gods’ names, meeting all the mythical creatures, and the whole island is an amazing overall educational experience; it’s so well-thought!

I congratulate Poptropica for making islands that are both educational, and really fun at the same; they can appeal to everyone! 😀 Well, anyway, thanks for reading this post, and I’d like to hear your thoughts on the comment section below (please)!

Reviewing the Rebooted: CP Island vs Worlds

Hey Clawtropicans, it’s your friend Purple Claw!

A couple of days ago, I decided to install Club Penguin Island on my phone, and later on I though: ”Hey, I should compare this with Poptropica Worlds, since I have nothing better to do they’re both reboots of original popular virtual worlds.” So here you have it.

CPI-VS-PW.png

You may have read the other comparison I’ve written about half a year ago about Club Penguin with Poptropica; if not you can read it here. In that post, I said that Poptropica was better than CP (which still is, in my opinion), but when I look back at it, I have to admit that Club Penguin was pretty cool, there was a lot of potential in that game (you can only miss something when you lose it).

Anyway, with that said, let’s get started!

CLUB PENGUIN ISLAND REVIEW

Club Penguin Island is interesting… to say at least. It’s just like Club Penguin, but… ugh… with smaller space & built with CGI, which makes me want to throw my phone in the fire and watch it burn with a dying passion (that didn’t happen, fortunately). Let’s just say… we’re not off to a good start… But, for real, it’s not really the best game ever, and neither it is the worst.

I wouldn’t care about the CGI animation if it was an original game, but this is a sequel to a popular game, and it’s made by DISNEY. FREAKING DISNEY. The masters of animation! How could they make this game look so… crappy?! Well, if you’re wondering the same thing; don’t worry – I have the answer. They were lazy. That’s it.

The space is also an issue – I mean, there are some cool things, like all the hidden Easter eggs and the spectacular underwater place (forgot its name, going to talk about it below), which happens to be my favorite thing in the entire game, but… after you discover everything, there’s pretty much nothing to do, and you’ll get bored eventually, even as a member.

cp-island-world-map-new.jpg

Only FOUR freaking areas…

The Underwater Cave is simply stunning – there’s just so much beauty over there, which makes it the best place in the whole island! The art is very pleasing, and it’s really fun discovering all the cool hidden stuff. It’s also a really great way to earn coins. The best part of the game. Period.

The game is fully pay-to-play. I’m not even kidding, non-members can’t even wear clothes (so many naked penguins…). A big part of CPI are the missions, which isn’t a bad thing, but, oh no — all of them are members-only. And here I thought the original Club Penguin was bad… The worst thing is that CPI has only one mini-game, but guess what? Members-only! What else did could you expect from the most greedy company in the world?

We’ve got to have MONEY!

As of now, Club Penguin Island is horrible and I give it a W for Waste of time (except from the underwater treasure thing; that was incredible!), I don’t know if this game will improve or not, but as of now, it’s failure — its rating on Google Play is 2.6 stars (what a surprise!), so I’m not the only one who hates it.

By the way, if you miss the old game, you’re in luck, because you can still play it! Some fans re-made the original game and it’s AWESOME – you get free membership! It’s called Club Penguin Rewritten, and you can check it out right here. ^^

POPTROPICA WORLDS REVIEW

Pop Worlds definitely isn’t the best game ever, or, at least better than the original, but it does have some potential. Please notice that I might be a tiny bit bias (since this is a Poptropica-based fan blog), but I try to see both the positive and the negative side of things. Let’s get started!

There’s far too little content. With a total of two islands (excluding Home Island), there isn’t much to do on Poptropica Worlds after decorating your house until there’s nothing else to add, making the perfect outfit, etc. I believe that won’t be an issue in the future, since new content is being added really frequently (also, it’s September, which means Poptropica’s birthday month!).

pw-map.png

The game is too glitchy and takes a bit too much to load. While most of the annoying glitches have been fixed (Bleachy Boy is gone), but there are still a few. But what annoys me the most is how laggy the game is. It takes so much time to load, and it slows down my computer a lot. I really hope this issue will be fixed.

The art direction is pure gold – I don’t think you can disagree with me on that one. Since the creators use Unity instead of Flash, it gives the backgrounds a more deep and realistic look. The lighting and shading also deserves to be praised.

carrotart4

Some new features are great – houses, buying individual costume parts on the store, the new and really helpful closet and the quest log are great! They make the game much cooler and they’re a great addiction to PW.

Non-Members don’t have as much freedom to buy everything – but no, the game still isn’t pay-to-play, and the creators said they want to keep the fun experience for everyone. You can read this rant I wrote, Lilly’s rant on the Pop Blog, or this PHB analysis written by Fishy.

PopWorlds-Summer-Promo1

I’m not 100% happy with Poptropica Worlds, but I can see the improvement the creators are doing, so kudos to them! But my rating as of now is E for Eh, could be better. Hope to see more stuff in the future.

I really miss the old CP and Poptropica, but we can still play them, at least. While I don’t have high hopes for CPI, I do thing Pop Worlds is going to improve, since it pretty much follows the old formula that made Poptropica so nice (like sugar and spice) in the first place.

And last, but not least the creators released a new follower, on Poptropica Original! Look at it; it’s so adorable!!

follower

It’s… It’s just on the app. 😀

I’m officially scared right now. The post also came with two typos (update ‘you’ app), and seemed a bit rushed (#BringBackSkinnyMoon). I don’t know what to expect from Poptropica’s 10th anniversary anymore… That is if we get more crap like that.

(I still think the follower is cute, though).

Is Poptropica Worlds A More “Educational” Game?

Check out the other version of the post, on the Poptropica Help Blog, by clicking right here!

Hey there, Clawtropicans! It’s me, Purple Claw, hereto talk about a question I’ve been asking myself for a while now, that being – you guessed it – is Poptropica Worlds a more educational game, as in, more educational than the original Poptropica? Let’s get started with the analysis!

pop-education.png

To answer this question, we have to do a litle research, or as I like to call it, pop down memory lane…

WHAT’S EDUCATIONAL ABOUT POPTROPICA ORIGINAL?

The Poptropica Creators have always claimed Poptropica is an educational game, but is really true? Well, yeah. Or, at least it started out like that — Poptropica’s first three islands were pretty educational. Here’s why:

Early Poptropica and Shark Tooth Island had two very similar buildings: they both had museums. One being an art museum, and another full of shark facts; you get the idea.

The Pop Art museum is pretty much like any art museum, but what stood out the most was were the questions you could ask each artist — questions about their drawings, their personal life (such stalkers we are), etc. It’s pretty fun. The Shark Museum on the other hand simply had facts about sharks, that found myself pretty interested in them. That was literally my absolute favorite part of the island.

Time Tangled Island was – and still is – one of Poptropica’s most educational islands, and unlike the first two island mentioned, Time Tangled had a different method. When it still wasn’t a SUI, you could find some circles leading to Fact Monster articles, a Poptropica sponsor at that time (Fact Monster is an educational website where you can get help with homework and stuff, it’s actually pretty fun).

time-tangled-educational.PNG

This was a new thing for Poptropica, but it didn’t last long with the release of 24 Carrot Island, and I’m glad, since those Fact Monster monstrosities can really get in the way of your gameplay, and could be pretty annoying at times. Glad I never got to experience them. 😛

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for some other players) the following islands stopped being too educational (examples: 24 Carrot, Super Power, Big Nate etc.), and I don’t even know why. Maybe they were too busy to make museums and/or overall educational islands at that time.

This all changed with the release of Counterfeit Island, which fell in the ”museum-kind-of-educational-island” category. The following islands of Poptropica weren’t all educational – but there are quite a lot, such as Red Dragon, Mythology, Arabian Nights, etc.

So, we can all now probably agree that Poptropica is an educational game, but… what about Poptropica Worlds?

WHAT’S EDUCATIONAL ABOUT POPTROPICA WORLDS?

Well, since Poptropica Worlds has a whole of two islands as a whole (excluding Home Island, since there isn’t any adventure or quests, but maybe decorating your home counts as an adventure, I don’t know), so I can’t say much about it, but I’ll give it a shot.

Well, just like Poptropica’s first two islands, Poptropica Worlds also follows the ”museum” method, and it does much better job than Early Pop and Shark Tooth did.

Crisis Caverns’ museum is the Visitors’ Center, which has facts about the supervolcano, and other facts that inspired the island to be made. Is was an important part of the island, since it kinda moved the plot forward by giving (spoilers) that park ranger the elk antlers. The Pop Art museum, on the other hand, had nothing in common with the island (well, it had one thing in common if you count the fact that it’s the ‘pop’ art museum), but besides that, it didn’t add anything to the plot, so it made things less interesting…

cavernfact.png

The Reboot of 24 Carrot is simply gorgeous — it’s literally what made me like PW is the first place! The plot was improved and the visuals were really pretty. But, since Poptropica Words still isn’t such a social game, in the place of the common room there was a carrot museum, which isn’t really all bad. And just like on Crisis Caverns, this museum also moved the plot forward.

carrotfact.png

WHICH GAME IS MORE EDUCATIONAL?

Well, as of now, I’d have to say… drumroll please… Poptropica Original.

Why? Well, simply because it has more islands, which means more variety. But to the direction PW is going, I believe Poptropica Worlds will be considered a pretty educational game, since the island museums are pretty fun and don’t get in the way of your gameplay.

Whether you like Poptropica being an educational game or not, the Creators made a really good job on it on Poptropica Worlds.

Beyond Villainy — a new fan-fiction!

MVB: Ugh PC?! Why couldn’t you continue your previous one?!

PC: Because it sucks. Go away.

MVB: Okay, but… will I be in it?

PC: If I say yes, will you leave?

MVB: Okay, then. *leaves*

Hey guys, it’s Purple Claw, and I’m back from vacation (I actually came back like, two days ago, but I decided to post today)! I had a super fun time, but I’m really glad I came back, since I couldn’t resist without a good wi-fi connection, and I can go back to posting!

Anyway, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that… ugh… TMAoBN is officially cancelled. 😦 I’m sorry this is happening y’all, but I hated writing it. It’s too cliche. I… I don’t even want to think about it anymore. The cringe is that strong.

So, the good news is that I’m replacing the worst ever story to be created by mankind (The slippery adventures of Lazy Doodle) with a new fan-fiction. The new story will be more literature-ish and a bit more classic. And the name is – you guessed it – Beyond Villainy!

Beyond-Villainy-Logo

It’s basically about the future of our four most beloved totem villains, after they broke out of jail. It’s pretty much a sad story, and it will be a little more mature and deep than Meltene and the… other one. Not exactly PG-13, but I’d recommend for people that are 10 or older, but hey, if you still want to read it, no one’s stopping you. It’s not inappropriate or anything.

It will also posted on my DeviantArt, so if you don’t use WordPress.com and you’re on DA, you can read the story over there! Anyway, here’s a short intro, to get introduced and hyped for the story! 😀

A story about not only the future of our fellow villains, but about the future of our world. A story about how wrong actions can lead to catastrophic consequences. A story about love and hate. Joy and sadness. Creation and disaster. My friends, this is the world of Poptropica, after the deadly totems were broken down into pieces.

Pieces so small, the naked eye cannot witness.

And that is that.

There we start.

What do you think? Do you like the idea or not? Any helpful feedback is appreciated. If you wanna see more, please show support by commenting below! I want to make sure if you guys are interested in it, so I can continue writing it.

As of now, I’m writing the first chapter, but I hope I get more done during the next month. I promise this fan-fiction will have more potential, and I highly you’ll enjoy reading it.

Well, that’s it for now! Thanks for sticking with us! That was PC, signing out ’til my next post!
