Review: Reality TV Island

Hey there, Clawtropicans! Purple Claw here, and today, I’m going to review a really competitive island for all of you TV lovers! So, which island is it, you might ask? Well, I’m pretty sure you already know, since I literally revealed that in the title, but yeah, it’s Reality TV. 😛

Reality TV Island is one of January’s IotM, and, what a surprise; it’s one of my favorite islands too! It’s really fun, and I’m going to prove it, on this post! Also, keep in mind that this post contains spoilers, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, play this island before reading this review. If you’re still interested, read under the cut. 🙂

The basics

Have you ever wanted to be the star of a reality TV show? Well, now’s your chance! Duke it out with your fellow contestants and avoid elimination to win the show’s grand prize and become a hero to your hometown in the online virtual world, Reality TV Island.

Reality TV Island is the 11th island released on Poptropica, and it’s based on the American reality show, Survivor. The island goal is to win all the weird challenges and not to get voted off. That’s what makes this island so challenging! There are 14 challenges, but you only have to compete in 7 of them. With that said, let’s pass to the next category!

Storyline

To apply to join the contest, all you have to do is send a mail on Reality TV’s studio address. To do that, you’ll have to go through TV stores, grocery markets, bug crushing, and smelly apartments. Don’t worry, your work won’t go to waste; you’re going to be in the show no matter what you send (heck, you can even blackmail them)!

The hard part of this island, is the contest itself: the games aren’t that hard, but you have to make sure that no one votes you off. If they do, you’re out of the game, and you have to start the contest (not the island) from the beginning.

Gameplay

As I said before, there are 14 challenges (but you only have to compete in 7 of them), so let’s take a look at each one!

Balanced Diet: On this challenge, you have to keep your pole balanced, by keeping the dot in the middle of the plate-thingy by moving your cursor towards the opposite side. I’m really bad at this, and I’m always the first one to lose. Yay me!

Boulder Push: This one’s really fun! All you have to do is left-click on your mouse as fast as you can, before anyone gets to the finish line first.

Coconut Catch: This challenge’s goal is easy to guess: all you have to do is catch the coconuts that these wasteful monkeys throw.

Geyser Guess: This game is based on luck, because all you have to do is click on a geyser, and the spirit of the geysers (you know I’m kidding) decides who’s going to die. Just kidding, you just have to pray and hope that the geyser you’ve clicked on doesn’t blast you in the air. I’ve always had a bad experience with this challenge, and when I play it, I get really mad.

Hang Glider: Hang Glider is my personal favorite challenge, because I love games that have to do with avoiding obstacles. Here, you have to dodge the birds that fly towards you, and avoid the erupting volcanoes.

Knockout: You have a sling-shot, and with it, you shoot other people’s plates, before yours gets completely destroyed. That’s it.

Mountain Race: Yus, I love this one! On this challenge, you have to reach the top of this mountain, before anyone does before you. You have to avoid those huge rocks that will make you fall down.

On The Line: I don’t like this one because, well, it’s just really difficult and random. Here, you have to click on the left of your mouse and your fishing pole will go down and come back up. If you’re lucky, it will return with a fish. The winner is chosen by the one that catches 5 fish before anyone else.

Pole Climb: This one’s really great and that’s because I love games where you have to climb poles. And it becomes even better when you have to dodge huge coconuts! 😛

Short Put: You have to throw a rock, and the person that throws their rock the furthest is the winner. Meh.

Sourse: Poptropica Secrets

Shuffleboard: This one’s great, challenging, and not so random such as the other ones. It used to be my favorite, because I though I was good at it. 😛

Totem Hop: This mini-game is fun, buuut it’s a tiny bit random… Basically, you have to jump on another totem when the one you’re sitting on starts to shake. Besides its randomness, I had a fun time playing this mini-game.

Turtle Shell Toss: This challenge is great: you have to throw your coconut on one of the turtle shells. I love it!

Water Run: No. Just stop. This is the true horror. I’m really bad at this game, since I always spill the water, and, there’s a huge boar that has no life and wants to knock you down.

Visuals/Art

I was really impressed with the art-style! The buildings were impressive, tropical style was stunning, the backgrounds were beautiful! The art of this island deserves an A for awesome!

There’s nothing else to add, since the art was just beautiful! I’m sorry I have to cut this category really short, but there’s nothing more to add here, so I’ll just pass to the next and final category…

This island is really different from the other ones, since you don’t help others with their cases, but you do something for yourself, which, in this case, is to win the reality show! This island was also funny, because everyone was super obsessed with this reality TV show! The challenges were fun, the art was nice, and the island as a whole was great. It was really educational too. It could use some improvements, since while I was playing this island I experienced a few glitches, and a few of the mini-games weren’t so-well made. So, I rate this island with a…

… 9/10 stars! As I said above, it was fun, challenging, and had a beautiful art-style!
